Color of smoke while welding
If you know about welding or use a welding system you might have noticed the fumes. Most of you might or might not know that different metals need different kind of welding electrodes. Also, different welding electrodes emit smoke of different color Did you ever thought why the color of smoke is different in different welding electrodes?
I have attended a seminar on disaster reduction and management. We have been lectured on how to distinguish the source of fire or cause of fire by the emission of smoke while the building is on fire. The smoke may be white, grey, black. That means the combustible materials are of different kinds too. So as with the fumes of welding rod.
The welding stick or rod may be made of Aluminum, Beryllium, Cadmium Oxides, Chromium, , Copper, among others. Thus, it emits different colors.
Actually my question was regarding the color of smoke that comes out while doing a welding job. The color of smoke in such cases depends on the chemicals used in flux that helps a welding electrode melt in a proper way and keep the welded area safe and crack free due to oxidation or getting dried too quickly.
